Symi History
July 31st, 2008 Posted in Symi StoriesI’ve just added a Symi history page to www.symistories.com. This page will grow as the days go by and it’s nowhere near finished yet but at least there is something there. Each time I discover another date I’ll add it to the list, I’ve still got several books and things to look through for facts and figures. Eventually, I hope, we’ll have a page containing not just the usual facts about Symi history but one that also contains information from local people and unpublished documents; the kind of information I get from the Museum and from talking to locals etc.
I’m also going to add a category for ’snippets’, short anecdotes that don’t seem to fit anywhere else. Example: Noufris told me a story about the windmill (that is now the restaurant) during WW2, it’s only a paragraph so I will put that up in the ’snippets’ category. It may not be much but that’s the idea of the new site - for everyone and anyone to add such little pieces of information so that it can all be shared.
Anyway, enough of that for now. It was a quiet Wednesday in the village, being change over day but I think it will soon start to get busy - Neil is on his way back with his daughter as I write. The plane was late and it sounds like neither has slept (it was due in at 2.00 am, I don’t know how late it was) but as soon as they recover… oh boy! So, must go and open the shop for the morning. While I am there I am going to see if I can search out some old Symi photos that we have restored over the last couple of years so I can build a gallery for the new site. Have a good day.
