Meanwhile, up in Horio, The Olive Tree held its Saturday night dine-in, which was again very successful, we played music at the taverna (see the pics on this page, taken by Terri and Neil, more to come in the next few days), and the 2 A’s later hosted a Eurovision night. I was in Dublin once when Ireland won for the second time in a row. (1994 with ‘Rock and Roll kids’ – I just looked it up. It was also the same year that ‘Riverdance’ was performed for the first time.) I was staying at the same hotel as some of the performers for three of the countries and, even though they hadn’t won, there was something of an after-show party going on once they all got back from the theatre, buy meridia without prescription. But, on Symi, the place to be for Eurovision is in an establishment owned by someone from the winning country. Astrid, when she thought that Germany wasn’t going to win, announced that, if they did, there would be drinks on the house. So, thanks for the unnecessary glass of wine Astrid. After our dinner and wine from Noufris and George it was a bit too much gilding on the lily, but I appreciated the gesture!

But we had a fun night playing all kinds of music at the taverna, which was for the most part full. I was saddened to see the news that Jack Birkett has died. I worked for a long time with another member of the Lindsay Kemp Dance Company and, although I only met Jack once, I was kept up to date with his extraordinary activities – not to mention Lindsay’s, but that is another book of stories. Jack was a rare performer indeed, he was blind for many years but he didn’t take that as an obstacle. And on with the rest of Sunday… lazing, doing nothing, maybe tidying up a bit (I thought that’s what our daughter was here for?), maybe walking to Pedi, maybe just reading and pottering in the garden… Who knows. I expect if I popped down to the 2 A’s in a moment I’d still find the wine flowing and the celebrations on-going… but I am not going to do that, it’s gone 10.30 in the morning.
