Heating up, new books and fur loss

It’s definitely heating up over here on Symi; there was talk of temperatures in the high thirties yesterday, but someone said it would calm down a little later in the week. We shall see. The news has just been showing us new vehicles and staff that will go out on forest fire patrol on the mainland, which sounds like a sensible precaution to me.

For all those folk who were asking about the new book – the second part of Symi 85600, I can now tell you that I have at last started to lay it out and am having it edited bit by bit as I go. It’s still going to take some time to put together but we’re getting there. This one will also have photos included, in black and white, and will be a different format. I recently had lulu.com print up the first part of the family history book I am working on, so that I could see the quality of the pictures, charts etc., and I was pleasantly surprised by the clarity. So I thought I’d go for the same kind of publication this time. Watch this space, as they say. Though you may have to watch it for a little while yet…

As for the alarm donkey: definitely moved on a while ago and the cat is back in charge of the early morning wake up call again. And the mid-morning one, and the siesta one… and he’s shedding fur like there was no tomorrow. Makes me think of a Sondheim song; ‘The sun comes up, I moult around you. The coffee cup, there’s fur in that too. You said you loved me, so I sit here and purr. Though I am losing my fur.’ (Well, it’s too early in the morning to be decently creative.)

Only a few days to go before the first visitors arrive at the house. There may be a lack of Symi blogging after Monday until the start of July, but I will get to it when I can. Maybe I will ask Jenine if she can do some updates, direct and live from the Olive Tree, while I am entertaining friends and family. I expect Harry could probably manage to do them himself by now.

And the next job is to print and post the exhibition posters…

If Harry is typical of kids his age, he’ll probably be able to do the update quicker than you or Jenine!
