Feels like the week has already passed by on Symi

It’s one of those days when you want to be out and about – the weather is just perfect for walking, though there is a mist in the distance, so I can’t see the coast of Turkey from the house this morning. But I can see! New glasses arrived on Tuesday morning so I am typing this wearing my new fairy vocals, which take some getting used to… Sorry, that’s vary focals, see what I mean? Actually I seem to have taken to them rather well, as long as I remember to look in the right direction that is.

Wall watch – about as interesting as watching cement dry; the wall opposite the shop is coming on.

It’s been a fun week so far with several after work activities. I went to meet Neil after his Greek dancing class on Tuesday and stopped at the Two As for one on the way home – yes, it turned out to be two of course. Yesterday turned into one of those unplanned days where you meet people you’ve not seen for a while and end up staying out chatting when you should be at home doing things. We were treated to a lovely dinner followed by some music practice last night and then joined the end of a quiz in the bar; which is probably why neither of us feel like doing anything today. But N has gone to Yialos to see the dentist before opening the shop, and I have some things to do here, when I get around to it.

Up the Kali Strata…

It was the name day of Katherine (and variations) yesterday and we bumped into a few people coming back from the hillside church later in the day, and got invited to a couple of other name day celebrations that are coming up next week. They are a bit of a walk away, only an hour or so though, so weather permitting we will try and get to at least one of those next weekend.

And down the Kali Strata…

Other than that no great Symi news to report – not that I report official news, only what I see. I notice a couple of new Twitter pages (or whatever they are called). http://twitter.com/symichat is from Jord who does the Symi Podcast and runs Symi Art – he is busily working on my new book cover today, wink, wink. And the other is http://twitter.com/symivis_info from the Symi Visitor accommodation and website team. Worth a look – which I will do shortly. But it feels like half the day has gone already and I’ve still not done much; I’m happy to sit on the terrace and watch neighbour Michaelis working across the lane – he’s putting up a wire barrier, presumably to stop cats getting into his courtyard, like that’s going to happen. I saw a cat with a lame front leg the other day, it ran/hopped across the wasteland in front of the house and launched itself at the wall of a ruin and then actually ran up the wall several feet before coming to rest on the top. If a tripod cat can do that I’m sure a fully functioning one can get over a wire fence.

Sorry if there are more than the usual typos today, it’s these fairy vocals.

A local cat. (Still not got used to these new glasses.)

Hang on in there with the fairyvocals. It took a couple of weeks to get used to mine.
