A day for gifts as Christmas starts on Symi
When I was about 11 I won a bottle of Yardley aftershave in a raffle, and I’ve not won anything since. Until last night that is. Actually yesterday was a bit of a day for gifts. Sotiris, at the supermarket, slipped a bottle of wine into our shopping with Christmas wishes, later at the Rainbow, Yiannis presented us with two litres of homemade wine and then, at The Olive Tree, when Ian called the name out of the hat for the raffle… it was me. A jar of homemade mincemeat, one of chutney, a bottle of Cair and a basket. So that’s our Christmas sorted.
Earlier, around five, I videoed the sky, it was very pink and even the local cats came out to have a look. I’ve put a short video clip together and put it on the Symi Dream YouTube page, adding a couple of seconds of last night’s gathering at the Olive Tree which was festive, friendly and fun. (Trying my first ‘embed your video from YouTube. You can also view it here.)
Today has dawned fresh and bright, which is good as I have to go to Yialos later this morning for a final check of the post office for one last gift that should have arrived by now. It should have arrived last week, but the boats were disrupted for a time so fingers crossed… We’re hoping to get in a couple of rounds of golf this evening before starting on the festive season proper tomorrow.
Thanks to everyone for their emails and good wishes by the way, it’s always good to read your messages and we do try and reply to them all as soon as they come in. Glad to hear that the pre-ordered copies of Carry On Up The Kali Strata have arrived safely at various locations around the world… except here, that’s something else that I’ve been waiting for.

Merry Christmas to all of you. I am sitting in a lodge in Norway with all my family and having a really good time. Here is a lot of snow and the temperature is about – 20 degrees, so you have to dress proberly before going out. But the sun is shining and there is fire in the fireplace. And tomorrow we are cooking a big duck the Danish way.
I think you have borrowed some of my cats or at least their outcome, they look pretty familiar.
See you in March.
Have a good time over Christmas and thanks for all the blog entries/reports which do keep us up to date.
Yes, I thought some of the cats had to be Tove’s as well. Glad to see that they look well-fed.
Happy Christmas and a peaceful new year to all Symi redidents and visitors.
