Ordering Meridia

Ordering meridia, Here’s an interesting one for you (I hope), mixed in with some random pictures to break things up a bit. I found an article at  http://www.expat-blog.com which will be of interest to at least one person I know. It’s about applying for an EU residence permit in Greece and the basics are:

1 European Union regulations say that a citizen of one EU country living in another country for more than six months should apply for a residence permit.

2 If you apply to the Police for a residence permit (βεβαίωση εγγραφής), they will ask you why you want one. The police don’t require you to have one

3 You will need one for buying a car or motorbike

4 You don’t need one to buy a house

5 You will need certain documents (Passport, proof of Medical insurance, a letter setting out your annual income, pension etc. four passport sized photos (available from Symi Dream of course, or from someone more locally if you live in, say, Athens.))

The article says that the permits last for five years, New Jersey NJ N.J., but ours have no end-date on them. Having said that, I got mine as it was needed for my IKA (health insurance), though when I took it to Irini to get my IKA sorted out she threw up her hands and asked why the police station had given me one that says I wasn’t allowed to work. It didn’t seem to matter though, everything got sorted out, I've been using it for a couple of years and I've had no trouble.

Getting our blue cards, which may be any number of colours it seems, took a couple of months of going back and forth to the police station, and my advice is: Go there first and ask for a list of exactly what you need. Price of meridia, (There may be more than is listed above and in that article, depending on your circumstance.) Then go and get the paperwork, which may include a note from the town hall to say that you are registered to vote on, and living permanently on, Symi. Then phone the police station to make sure the right person is there and has time to see you before going, it saves a lot of hanging around.

Anyway, check out the article here to get Dave Brown’s full story:  And if you have any doubts than call in to the KEP office which is on the ground floor of the town hall (middle room), and where the ladies are employed to advise you, they speak English very well if your Greek is not up to it, and they are very helpful.

PS, apparently we have a new hairdresser’s salon in the village – I’ll see if I can get some photos soon.

I’m not sure whether your mention on the Trip Advisor Symi Forum applies to this particular post but I do agree with it.
