An afternoon in the garden and some visiting ants
We got around to sorting out the garden yesterday, I say ‘we’… Paul did most of the work, Neil pruned a tree and I served the canapés… Just a little more tidying up and it’s done. No sign of the garden snake though.

It’s obviously insect season again. I was sitting at the desk the other morning when I noticed a flying ant land on my monitor. Thought nothing of it. Then a second one appeared, then a third. The door was open but I didn’t see them coming in from outside. I then noticed a few more on the windows and after a couple of seconds there were hundreds in the room – it was like something from an Alfred Hitchcock film, but on a smaller scale. I opened the balcony doors to let them all out and then went out myself. No idea where they came from, probably the roof. We expect the kitchen ants back any day now, then the spiders will be out…

At the Olive Tree
I saw Zoi in the supermarket the other day, she tells me she is planning on opening the taverna in May. (I believe the business is for sale though, there was something about it on the Symi Visitor chat pages.) Dawn’s shop opposite the bakery is coming on and looks like it will soon be ready. The Olive Tree continues to be popular. Filos is up for rent if anyone is interested. And everywhere else up in the village is running as normal. The harbour was looking bright and ready when I went down there the other day, there are already visiting yachts coming in and I can see some pass the island as I look out of the window here. It’s ‘Big Thursday’ today, Easter weekend is almost on us.
Takis has his shop ready and open

My neighbour kindly cut my lawn the other day but I didn’t serve canapes.
Yes, the source on the Symi Visitor web site (with various consequential shock/horror comments including mine) is the thread ‘Restaurant for Sale’ within the forum ‘Messages from the Symi Visitor Team’.
(I feel entitled to quote that reference on this site, having just posted on the Symi Visitor thread a reference back to this source!).
So why did Neil set fire to the lemon tree? A somewhat extreme way of pruning the thing, isn’t it?
It will save pruning it next year of course!
